About Reno Freethinkers
Reno, Nevada ? Established November 2009
Working drafts for group review.
Our mission
Reno Freethinkers provides a place to explore ideas, question beliefs, and learn from one another without dogma or pressure to conform. Through meetings and open discussion, we bring people together to examine science, philosophy, religion, and everyday life using reason, evidence, and curiosity.
Our vision
We envision a community where people are free to think for themselves, ask difficult questions, and change their minds without fear of rejection or threats. We hope to build lasting friendships among people who value honest inquiry and can find common ground while respecting their differences.
Our values
- Independent thought. We examine ideas on their merits rather than accepting them because of tradition, authority, or popularity.
- Reason and evidence. We ask for good reasons, distinguish facts from assumptions, and remain willing to revise our views.
- Curiosity and learning. We welcome questions, acknowledge what we do not know, and learn from different experiences.
- Freedom of belief and inquiry. People should be free to explore, believe, doubt, or disagree without coercion, indoctrination, or threats.
- Respectful conversation. We listen carefully, challenge ideas thoughtfully, and treat people with dignity even when we disagree.
- Community and participation. We welcome newcomers and value the time, ideas, and support members contribute to the group.
Our history
Reno Freethinkers was established in November 2009. Our history includes the people who helped start the group and those whose friendship and contributions we remember.
